Excerpt from “Tail Wags and Whiskers…”
“…The morning after Super Bowl Sunday, Rocky didn’t appear for breakfast, his favorite meal. At first, I wasn’t alarmed. The cat had disappeared inside the house before, including that time he got lost inside the den ceiling. But that was in his more active youth. He hadn’t done that in years.
By afternoon, with no kitty, I started worrying and mustered up the family. “Let’s all look,” I said. “Where can this cat have gone?”
Randy, Patrick, Paul, and I began searching under every bed, in every cabinet and closet. We called Rocky’s name. We rattled his food bag. We pored over every inch of the basement and even the attic. But there was no sign of him. Nothing. The cat had vanished. That night, I put more food in Rocky’s bowl, hoping to lure him out of hiding. But when I woke that second morning and saw it untouched, my stomach lurched. Something was wrong.
“Any sign of the cat?” Randy asked when I came upon him. I could see worry in his eyes and shook my head.
Looking out the window, I had a terrible thought. Could Rocky be outside?…”
